CHILDREN’S HOUR

Posted by Daniel S. on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, In : books

AUTHORS write for a specific readership, be it that of the publisher, or intent. It’s what makes the big difference between authors and writers, who record and write for themselves (and possibly generic posterity). One of my personal favorite genre’s is children’s books, within which I’ve had the distinct pleasure of pioneering Savant Books and Publications’ “COLOR ME PLEASE” series.

Children’s books seem to many the easiest to write. Ah, yes, write. But authoring children’...

PLANT WISDOM

Posted by Daniel S. on Wednesday, May 4, 2022, In : Knowledge/Wisdom

Something’s going on with the two tomato plants growing on my porch: They’ve suddenly stopped turning red! OMG, does that mean they’re gonna turn blue before November? Ha, ha. No, really, there’s actually lots of GREEN tomatoes remaining green, and they aren’t likely to turn red or blue in the near future. Can plants join political parties? Can they even party at all?

Maybe they’re pondering onion-izing alongside Amazon and Starbuck workers, but instead of going for more water, f...

Is It STILL Halloween?

Posted by Daniel S. on Thursday, November 9, 2017, In : books
Last week I was talking with readers to see what they read for Halloween. I got good feedback from:

1. A lawyer and his daughter who both liked William Maltese's WILLIAM MALTESE'S FLICKER (Savant 2010);
2. A retiree who passed out Halloween treats inbetween chapter of Richardo Felix Rodriques' THE SURREAL ADVENTURES OF DR. MINGUS (Aignos 2014);
3. A teen who had everything good to say about A. G. Haye's CHANG THE MAGIC CAT (Aignos 2017);
4. A witch, who, was, well, witchy about everything, includ...

TURTLE DANCING

Posted by Daniel S. on Tuesday, October 3, 2017, In : books
Okay, so you've heard of ballroom, Latin, Jazz, even Hip-Hop and Street Dancing, but have you ever seen Turtle Dancing? True, my award-winning "COLOR-ME-PLEASE" children's book, THE TURTLE DANCES (Savant 2013), is about a couple of Hawaiian Green Sea Turtles, Isla and Surf, who happen one evening on a dance competition in Waikiki and want to partner dance. But I mean real turtle dancing. As turtles normally do.

Actually, my competition dance partner, Setsuko Tsuchiya, recently published a boo...

TURTLES, TURTLES, TURTLES!

Posted by Daniel S. on Tuesday, September 19, 2017, In : books
As the author of the award-winning "Color-Me-Please" children's book, THE TURTLE DANCES (Savant 2015), I make it my responsibility to visit the North Shore of Oahu island pretty much every week to check and see if any of the Hawaiian Green Sea turtles are dancing. Silly? Not really. I've spent countless hours watching them surf happily in the incoming waves. The operational word here is "in" as they use their natural built-in surfboards, their shells, more like a horizontal stabilizer riding ...
