SAY … WHAT … ?

Posted by Daniel S. on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, In : books

"Author Raymond Gaynor, in this sequel to his novel TOTAL MELTDOWN, manages a successful tear in the time-space continuum that provides his readers with an insightful glimpse of society’s future. It’s not always a pleasant picture. In fact, it’s sometimes bordering on the truly shocking. That said … all of his prophetical premises seem to have logical underpinnings based upon historical facts, including what’s obviously at play within our own Twenty-First Century. It’s a f...

THE MAN IN THE WHITE PANAMA HAT

Posted by Daniel S. on Monday, September 13, 2021, In : Acting

IF that title makes you think of Ian Fleming, James Bond, Richard Rose or A. G. Hayes, you’re right one, though my now particular choice begins with friends and authors A. G. Hayes or Richard Rose.

A. G. Hayes is the multi-award-winning author of the seven-book Koski & Falk Special Agent and the three-book Kate Keenan Special Assignment series by Savant Books and Publications:

WHO’S KILLING ALL THE LAWYERS? (Savant 2011) – Lawyers are being murdered by LASER-driven arrows. The FBI beli...

THE SHORT AND THE LONG OF AUTHORING

Posted by Daniel S. on Saturday, August 7, 2021, In : books

OKAY, so you’re reading this because you’re an author (hopefully, or an avid reader at least) wondering about what it all means. The “short of it” is about the myriad frustrations with publishing. Publishing wasn’t doing exactly well when bookstores started disappearing (remember Borders, Crown, Waldenbooks, may the rest in peace?), the last behemoth bookstore chain Barnes and Noble was bought out by UK hedge fund Elliot Advisors, distributors, well, began having trouble distributin...

PLEONISM, EPIZEUXES AND SEMANTIC SATIATION!

Posted by Daniel S. on Wednesday, April 21, 2021, In : writing/authoring

WRITING writings; carefully wording one’s words; creating creative stories — it’s all about judiciously avoiding the irreverent epizeuxis, pleonasm and, God(dess) forbid, semantic satiation. And doing it without losing the occasional congenial, sometimes gratifying occurrence of alliterative consonance or onomatopoeia. Rat-tat-tat went the machine gun. Quack said the duck. Forsooth mouthed the itinerant forsoother.

In truth, as an author, I do enjoy employing semantic variety — a sor...

A PUMPKIN IN PARADISE

Posted by Daniel S. on Tuesday, October 24, 2017, In : holidays

Most people don't think of warm, sunny, Honolulu, Hawaii, when they think of pumpkins or Halloween, which, in my mind is a travesty. We actually do grow pumpkins here. Really! This time of year, one can cruise the island and grab a plump pumpkin from a variety of pumpkin patches.

And we actually do celebrate Halloween here, and we celebrate it big time in Waikiki. Walking along either side of Ala Moana Boulevard as it courses through the heart of Waikiki, one can observe and even have thei...
