HOLIDAY CHEER

Posted by Daniel S. on Friday, December 31, 2021, In : books

WE in the USA often think of Christmas as “the holidays,” when, I suspect, more people in the world celebrate the New Year holiday. I looked this up on the internet and while I found one site that stated “2 billion” people throughout the world celebrated Christmas, I wasn’t able to find any similar estimate for New Year, so my suspicion remains speculation unless someone reading this has the answer. Sadly, not every question is answerable on the internet, not to mention whether any ...

HOLIDAY REMORSE?

Posted by Daniel S. on Tuesday, December 28, 2021, In : books

EVER get the feeling that something dark is happening underneath all that holiday joy? If so, you’re more connected than most, in my opinion. I’ve been touting over and over during the past year and a half that the Great Pandemic is a much needed “shot across the bow” of contemporary societies, with special emphasis on transactions, namely the absolute need to change from “crowd sales” to “individual service” approaches. The “fuel” that’s feeding COVID today is as much, ...

SHIVER ME TIMBERS…

Posted by Daniel S. on Thursday, December 23, 2021, In : books and movies

I’VE often wondered about the phrase “Shiver me timbers,” having heard it uttered numerous times times by the archetypal pirate, Long John Silver, in Robert Louis Stevenson’s TREASURE ISLAND. I’m won’t to believe it an actual nautical expression from the days of large wooden sailing ships, when it was an expression of shock and awe, as when the rib-timbers of a ship shivered from pounding during rough seas or during war when the ship was it by a cannonball.

I have to admit, the m...

AN INTERVIEW WITH AUTHOR A. G. HAYES

Posted by Daniel S. on Wednesday, December 22, 2021, In : books and movies

YESTERDAY, Kenny Simmons of K. Simmons Productions and I interviewed multi-award-winning author A. G. Hayes in anticipation of the newest K. Simmons Productions film, “Finding Kate,” based on the A. G. Hayes’ book of the same name, currently in pre-production. So, how are you A. G. Hayes? The answer: Greatly anticipating “Finding Kate” (https://kspllc.media/finding-kate). Anticipated to be the first in an 11 movie series in the “Koski and Falk” movie franchise, long-ignored comp...

THE FUTURE OF BOOKS AND FILMS

Posted by Daniel S. on Wednesday, December 22, 2021, In : books and movies

2021 saw continued pressure on publishers of books, and began a whole new era of similar pressure on filmmakers, and it all began with “self-publishing.” That’s not to blame, but simply a strong opinion, leading to an “ethos” of vanity self-publishing be it books or movies. I have always thought of COVID-19 in all it’s various iterations a “shot across the bow” of both. That is, with the loss of many support businesses, the “inflation” of prices coincident with a general d...

MY FAVORITE MOVIE (OTHER THAN “STATIC”)

Posted by Daniel S. on Sunday, December 19, 2021, In : books and movies

HAVING been asked countless times what my favorite movie is (other than “Static” — https://kspllc.media/the-static-movie — in which I was lead actor under the name of “Daniel S. Janik”), I feel it time to stick my new “celebrity” neck out and say conclusively, that, yes, I DO have a favorite movie, and, yes, I am willing to share the name of it publicly. Having said all that you’re probably wondering, why doesn’t he just SAY its name?

It’s all about qualifications. As I...

OH! NO-MY-CHRON!

Posted by Daniel S. on Saturday, December 18, 2021, In : books and movies

WHAT was the COVID-count on 15 December 2021 here on Oahu? 278 as I recall, only to see it rising exponentially to over 700 yesterday. Today’s a “holiday” so COVID isn’t reported, or, for that matter, allowed to rise by decree. Yeah, right! So here we go again, chasing after another pandemic that we should have been preparing for instead of celebrating. What does it take to realize that yesterday’s “crowd sales,” especially when involving crowding people together, won’t work, ...

MY NEXT STARRING ROLE…

Posted by Daniel S. on Tuesday, December 14, 2021, In : books and movies
CALL me incredibly talented or lucky, you pick, to have landed a co-starring role in the K. Simmons Production of THE WILLIAM MALTESE COLLECTION — https://kspllc.media/maltese-collection — beside the star about whom this bio-documentary is about, the incomparable author and now actor, Mr. William Maltese. Finished my shoot about a week ago, and heard yesterday that William finished his a couple days ago, that means the film is on its way to wrapping and post-production, hopefully to be re...

IT USTA BE…#4

Posted by Daniel S. on Monday, December 13, 2021, In : books

DELIGHTFUL to fly! To soar in luxury above the clouds! To climb aboard and then exit in another part of the world! Gone are those days and what’s more, there’s no likelihood that airlines will ever “get it” and restore the level of excellence we used to know and expect, except for taking money quickly and efficiently, and creating new ways of not giving it back where deserved without a fight. Sorry to say this, but if there was ever an industry hopelessly wedded to “crowd sales” i...

IT USTA BE…#3

Posted by Daniel S. on Saturday, December 11, 2021, In : books and movies

COMFORTING to know that people looked after you, having your best interests rather than theirs at heart. Usta, and, still is true but rarely on occasion rather than something you could count on. “Toto, I’ve a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore.” Human interactions especially where money are concerned, these days seem to more reflect the “Pirates of the Caribbean” than Dorothy in “The Wizard of Oz:” “Take everything; give nothing back,” “I’m dishonest, and a dishonest ...

IT USTA BE…#2

Posted by Daniel S. on Friday, December 10, 2021, In : dance

FUN dancing on a crowded dance floor. In fact, being a dancer at heart, as well as an actor and author, partner dancing was something for which I lived. A lifelong devotion, every-other-day exercise in the studio, interspersed with weekly social dancing and the total release of rarer performances or competitions. Yep, usta is the right word, indeed.

For the past two years, there has been no social, performance or competitive dance without the risk of death by COVID. “Real” partner dancin...

IT USTA BE…#1

Posted by Daniel S. on Friday, December 10, 2021, In : books

FUN going GROCERY SHOPPING! I used to look forward to a quick in and quick out after work with several bags of fresh, tasty groceries for $25 a bag. Yep. Usta.

Went shopping at 6:45 AM this morning to avoid the crowd and maintain social distancing while wearing my obligatory mask. Tried to walk the isles for exercise (grocery walking) but had to do all the shopping in 15 minutes or less, only to wait in long lines for the only one or two cashiers up and awake at this time of the day. They ca...

IS A PICTURE REALLY WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS?

Posted by Daniel S. on Tuesday, December 7, 2021, In : books and movies

THIS is a question all actor-authors like myself must eventually ask. I’m told the “right” answer is actors should go for the picture; authors the words. And while that’s probably true in general, I personally think it has everything to do with perspective.

As the multi-award-winning author of the Amazon genre bestseller, THE EDGE OF MADNESS (Aignos 2020) by Raymond Gaynor — https://www.amazon.com/dp/0999693859 — and its decidedly naughty LGBTQ+ prequel TOTAL MELTDOWN (Borgo/Wild...

SO WORLD WAR TWO WASN’T ENOUGH?

Posted by Daniel S. on Saturday, December 4, 2021, In : books

THE world having survive two global wars between fascist dictatorships and democracies appears to not have been enough for the losers, rising again from the ashes, this time China, North Korea, Russia, Iran and allies are ready and willing to bet the lives of their people on another attempt at conquering the world. Sigh. Isn’t there enough misery in the world without another war? Or is this simply an ill-fated effect of overpopulation, fueled by individual fear, greed and hatred?

WARS AND RUMORS OF WARS…

Posted by Daniel S. on Friday, December 3, 2021, In : books

IF there’s one thing that’s totally unscientific, it’s human behavior. Especially “leadership” behavior. I’ve seen and experienced it first hand “on the set” (see https://www.netflix.com/title/80990849 and you’ll wonder how ANY movie of value could have been made) and watched in awe and horror during the thirteen days of the Cuban Missile Crisis (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-yfIoHXOO9E). So, what’s new with President Putin and the manufactured Ukraine Crises. Nothing. ...

AH, IMMORTALITY AT LAST!

Posted by Daniel S. on Thursday, December 2, 2021, In : books and movies

CALL me old fashioned, but as an author and actor, it’s when the printed book and DVD come out that I “feel” immortal. And yesterday, the “Static (2021)” movie DVD and the Static Sound Track CD were finally released (https://kspllc.media/the-static-movie). For an actor, it’s like an author when the printed book is finally released. And, yes, there’s a sense of immortality that comes with it.

Several have asked what I’m doing right now, which is to appear as an interviewee in ...
