SCI-FU IN OTOSOTU
May 4, 2024IN my pioneering book "The Edge of Madness" by Raymond Gaynor (Aignos/Savant 2020) - https://www.amazon.com/dp/0999693859, I introduced a new genre called SciFu (short for science-based futuring), an alternative to less plausible science fiction and implausible science fantasy). In the case of Sci-Fu, what makes it plausible is that it is based on contemporary scientific technologies. An example of this is "interactive holographic projection," a crux of "The Edge of Madness."
Laser Holography today is a recognized science, consistently reproducible under controlled circumstances. In the 1980's I had the pleasure of meeting face-to-face with the father of normal light holography, Yuri Denisyuk. Spatial touch panels are a more recent scientific technology. I simply combined these in my mind during COVID into interactive holographic classrooms where teacher and student were interactive images.
In 2023, when working with screenwriter William Maltese on the film OTOSOTU (pronounced "Oh-Toe-So-Two" for "On The Other Side Of The Universe"), interactive holographic communication seemed a "natural" future technology with an already firm contemporary foundation. I invite you to watch the soon-to-become SciFu film classic OTOSOTU, beginning with the official trailer:
