I have been an avid dancesport enthusiast since as far back as I can remember (though it wasn't called Dancesport back then). My formal dance training began when I first met my life (and social/performance/competition dance) partner, Setsuko Tsuchiya, in the 1990's at a YMCA dance in Berkeley, California. We began studying American Smooth and Rhythm dance, later switching to  International Ballroom and Latin/American style dance, studying with professional champion, coach and adjudicator Mr. Albert Franz (Albert Franz Studio, Honolulu, Hawaii, USA) and later Hiromi and Seiji Yuuki. We are both performance and competitive dancers at various times registered with USA Dance and Japan DanceSport Federation as well as members of International Ballroom Dance Inc., Pan Pacific Ballroom Dance Society of Hawaii, Dance Magic 808 and Illima Dance Club to name a few.

ON STAGE AND FILM

1) performed and danced with dance partner, Setsuko Tsuchiya, in competitions in USA and Japan

2) appeared in a brief dance sequence he choreographed with actress Jerri Lynn Endo ("Ginny") in the made-for-television movie "STATIC"

3) appeared with dance partner, Setsuko Tsuchiya, as background dancers in the TV series, FANTASY ISLAND 1998 - Episode 4 - "Dying to Dance" - (39.00 through 42.00 minute mark)

4) will soon appear as a featured dancer with dance partner, Setsuko Tsuchiya, in the first episode of the the six-part, made for TV series "FINDING KATE"

5) will soon appear with dance partner, Setsuko Tsuchiya, as background dancers in the 2 Liters production of the movie "MOCOS"

TEACHING

Setsuko and I are pleased to have taught ballroom/Latin dance for International Ballroom Dance Inc from 14 January 2019 through 2020 ending with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Our lessons included:

- International Waltz; International Rumba; and International Cha Cha; 


NOTE: Dance lessons with International Ballroom Dance Inc were suspended in 2020 due to COVID-19. We hope to resume lessons sometime in the near future. 


If you would like private beginner or syllabus level Competitive/Performance International-style Ballroom/Latin lessons from Dan and/or Setsuko, call 808-551-7529. We charge $25 per hour for one person with one of us; $40 per hour for one person with both of us; or $60 per hour for a couple with one or both of us. We currently teach at Honolulu SuperSport Studio ("24-Hour Fitness on Kapiolani Blvd - you will need to be a 24-Hour Fitness member). We can also arrange to meet at other dance studios for an additional studio fee of $20 per session.
